Excellent liaison exists between the Pre School Play Group in Bangor-on-Dee with regular visits to the playgroup by our nursery staff and visits to school for families considering our nursery for their children. |
Equally good liaison is well established with The Maelor School, Penley. Regular meetings take place between staff and head teachers of both schools. Pupils visit the Maelor School regularly for swimming lessons and to use other facilities. The liaison teacher appointed by the Maelor School visits us regularly to establish contact with pupils due to make the Primary/Secondary transfer. |

Our admissions policy gives priority to those children who live within the village and to those children who have siblings already at school. Families who live outside the village are invited to make an application to school, which will be given full consideration within the terms of the County Admission Policy. The Governing Body reviews our admissions policy regularly. |

General |
The curriculum is planned with regard for National Curriculum requirements and County policies. It is designed to complement and extend the experience, which the child brings to school. |
Pupils attain standards well above the national average at the end of Key Stage 1 and 2. |

The Early Years department provides quality education for the under fives. The Nursery operates in the morning, providing a programme of activities entirely separate from the Reception Year although the classes share many facilities within the unit. The Nursery is aimed at specific desirable outcomes with play/practical activities matched to individual needs. Children are encouraged to learn through practical experiences e.g. Role-play, music and movement, cookery, working in the nursery garden etc. |
The Reception class builds on the experiences learnt in Nursery with the priority to match learning with the individual’s needs. Practical experiences remain important alongside the rapid development of reading and numerical skills. Home reading and learning tasks will be set from the Reception year. |
|
In Y1 and Y2 the important skills of reading; writing, number, science, technology and ICT are further developed through stimulating tasks based on National Curriculum attainment targets and monitored as the work progresses. See here for a typical example of a day in the Year 2 class. |
