Invitation from the Chairman of the P.T.A.
Dear Parents,
On behalf of the PTA Committee may I welcome you to our school. Our committee is an enterprising, hard working unit made up of parents and teachers. As parents, you automatically become members of the PTA when your children start school. We hold our AGM in the autumn when the committee is elected; please accept this letter as a formal invitation to join us. There is, of course, no obligation to join the committee but it provides an excellent opportunity to gain an insight into the running of the school. We hold two or three meetings per term.
Our main fund raising event is the Spring Fair, which is always well supported. We have also held Bingo Nights and Discos for the children. In the past we have run Non Uniform Days, Balloon Races, School Uniform Sales and a Body Shop Party, which have helped to subsidise some of the transport costs incurred during school trips. We have had tea towels screen-printed incorporating self-portraits drawn by the children and we have also compiled a recipe book, both provided a valuable source of fund raising. We also operate a Karate Club with a professional coach every Monday, new members and of course volunteers are always welcome.
The school budget cannot always provide for all the basic necessities of day-to-day school life, what we have come to expect in our classrooms can no longer be automatically provided. Therefore our prime aim has become the provision of the necessary materials for the day to day running of the school. We have provided the school with funds to hold music and drama workshops. In addition, we have also been able to provide the school with funds to purchase English and Welsh textbooks, posters and computer hardware and software. The school reading books have also been added to recently using funds that the PTA provides. Every penny that we receive from our various fund-raising and social events is put straight back into the school so that it will benefit the children during their time here at Ysgol Sant Dunawd.
Everyone is most supportive and helpful in their individual way and this makes the PTA fun and very successful indeed. The committee is a small unit working alongside the staff with the support of the parents to benefit the school as a whole. If you feel that you would like to join us or would like to offer help at one of our events, please do not hesitate to contact me. Alternatively, we would welcome any new ideas or challenges that you may have.
