The Foundation Phase.
Throughout the Foundation Phase children learn through first hand experiences, focus tasks and play both indoors and outdoors. These first hand experiences allow children to develop an understanding of the themselves and the environment they live in. The focus tasks are planned adult led activities whereby an adult in the Early Years setting, passes on the knowledge and skills the children will need to progress throughout the school e.g. the teaching of phonics in the Reception year is a daily adult led focus task.
Play is extremely important. By allowing our children time to play in their classroom environment we will be giving them the opportunity to practise and consolidate their learning and ideas.
Play also contributes greatly to developing a child's self - image and feelings of belonging, self-esteem and self -worth.
Play is BENDIGEDIG!!
