Health Care and Medicals
The school doctor will carry out medical inspections from time to time.  Parents will be notified in advance and will be invited to attend.  Eye tests and hearing tests will also be carried out and parents advised if treatment is required.
Dental Inspections
These checks are carried out and parents advised if treatment is necessary. Parents are free to make private arrangements or take advantage of the service offered by the Health Authority.
Medicines
Staff will not normally dispense short term prescribed medicines such as cough medicines and antibiotics.  However, there may be times when a child is considered by their doctor to be fit for school but still in need of a course of prescribed medicine.  In this case, parents will be expected to come in to school to administer the medicine, during a suitable break, themselves.
Long-term medical conditions such as: Diabetes, Asthma etc should be recorded on the child’s records with the appropriate instructions for any treatment.  All medicines brought into school should be clearly labelled with the child’s name and dosage and should be given directly to a member of staff.
Safety In School
Fire Safety
A full fire drill, including evacuation of the building, is held regularly so that all children know exactly what to do without panic in the event of a real emergency.
First Aid
First Aid Boxes are kept in all departments. Several of the staff are qualified ‘First Aiders'.
If your child falls and has a bump, bruise, cut or head injury but has been well enough to remain in school your child will bring home a green accident report.  All infant children will have a sticker put on their jumpers to alert you that they have a form to give you.
Other instances where a form will be given include sickness, asthma attack or nosebleed.
In the event of an emergency you will be contacted by telephone.
Change of Circumstance/Address
Please notify the head teacher in confidence in the event of any change of family circumstance such as address, surname or legal guardianship of children.  Change of address, home, mobile or workplace telephone number is particularly important, should we need to contact you in the event of illness or accident in school.  Also important is the provision of an emergency contact who may be contacted if parents are unavailable or work a long way from school.
Please ensure that the school is informed of any change of address and contact information as soon as possible.
